ISO 26262 is an international safety standard for electrical and electronic (E/E) systems in road vehicles. It establishes a risk-based safety framework to ensure functional safety, manage systematic failures, and mitigate potential hazards across the entire product development lifecycle.

ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) is a risk classification scheme defined by ISO 26262, ranging from ASIL A (lowest risk) to ASIL D (highest risk). It is determined by analyzing three key factors during the Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) phase: Severity of potential harm, Exposure frequency, and Controllability by the driver.
