Process Areas are categories of processes that address specific goals and practices in CMMI. They provide a set of related practices that organizations should implement to improve their processes and capabilities. Examples include Project Planning, Requirements Management, and Risk Management.
GP
Generic Practices
Generic Practices are process practices that are expected to be applied across multiple process areas. They provide a foundation for institutionalizing good practices throughout the organization. Examples include establishing a defined process, providing resources, and monitoring and controlling the process.
GPAs
Goals and Practices Achievements
GPAs refer to the achievement levels in a CMMI appraisal. They indicate the extent to which specific goals and practices are being followed and performed by an organization. The four levels of GPAs are: Not Achieved, Partially Achieved, Largely Achieved, and Fully Achieved.
PIs
Process Indicators
Process Indicators are quantitative or qualitative measures used to assess the performance and effectiveness of processes in an organization. They help in monitoring process improvement efforts and identifying areas for further enhancement.
PFD
Process Flow Diagram
A Process Flow Diagram is a visual representation of the sequence of activities and interactions in a process. It helps in understanding the flow of work and identifying potential areas of improvement or bottlenecks.
OPP
Organizational Process Performance
OPP refers to a specific process area in CMMI that focuses on establishing a quantitative understanding of the organization's performance. It involves collecting and analyzing data to measure the performance of processes and making data-driven decisions for process improvement.
QPM
Quantitative Project Management
QPM is a process area in CMMI that concentrates on managing projects using quantitative and data-driven methods. It aims to make project management decisions based on factual data and analysis rather than intuition or guesswork.
IPM
Integrated Project Management
IPM is a process area in CMMI that focuses on establishing and managing the project's defined processes. It involves planning, coordinating, and executing activities to achieve the project's objectives while adhering to the organization's standard processes.
CAR
Corrective Action Report
A Corrective Action Report (CAR) is a document that identifies non-compliance or issues during an appraisal or process assessment. It includes the problem description, root cause analysis, and proposed corrective actions to address the identified concerns.
PAR
Preventive Action Report
A Preventive Action Report (PAR) is a document that outlines actions to prevent potential issues or non-compliance in the future based on lessons learned from previous experiences or similar projects. It focuses on proactively mitigating risks and improving processes to avoid problems before they occur.
CARs and PARs
Corrective and Preventive Actions
CARs and PARs collectively represent the actions taken by an organization in response to identified issues or potential problems. They aim to improve processes and prevent similar issues from reoccurring.
Causal Analysis
Causal Analysis
Causal Analysis is the process of investigating and determining the root causes of problems or issues in processes or products. It helps in understanding the underlying reasons for non-compliance or poor performance and allows organizations to implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
AI
Appraisal Inquiry
An Appraisal Inquiry (AI) is a formal process in CMMI where an organization can request clarifications or seek guidance on the appraisal process, its requirements, or specific practices. It helps the organization in better preparing for the appraisal and understanding the expectations.
OPD
Organizational Process Definition
OPD refers to the process of establishing, documenting, and maintaining the organization's standard processes. It involves defining the processes to be followed and making them available to the relevant stakeholders within the organization.
OT
Organizational Training
Organizational Training (OT) is a process area that focuses on identifying and providing necessary training and skill development opportunities to the employees. It ensures that the workforce is competent and well-equipped to perform their roles and responsibilities effectively.
IPPD
Integrated Product and Process Development
IPPD is an approach that emphasizes the collaboration and integration of product development and process improvement activities. It aims to ensure that the product development process is well-defined, efficient, and aligned with the organization's overall goals and processes.
RSKM
Risk Management
Risk Management is a process area that focuses on identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks associated with projects and processes. It involves developing strategies to handle potential risks and minimize their impact on project objectives.
PPQA
Process and Product Quality Assurance
PPQA is a process area in CMMI that concentrates on providing assurance that established processes and products adhere to their planned requirements and standards. It involves performing audits and reviews to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
SAM
Supplier Agreement Management
Supplier Agreement Management (SAM) is a process area that focuses on establishing and maintaining effective relationships with suppliers. It involves defining and managing agreements or contracts with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of quality products or services. SAM aims to monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues that may arise during the course of the project or product development. Effective SAM contributes to a more reliable supply chain and helps organizations meet their commitments to customers and stakeholders.
V&V
Verification and Validation
Verification and Validation (V&V) are two separate activities performed during the development lifecycle. Verification ensures that work products meet specified requirements, while Validation ensures that the final product satisfies the intended use and needs of the customer.
OPF
Organizational Process Focus
OPF is a process area that emphasizes establishing and maintaining a clear understanding of the organization's business objectives and aligning process improvement efforts accordingly. It involves selecting, tailoring, and deploying processes that best support the organization's goals.
PI
Process Improvement
